We have an immediate opening for a Sr. Manager Global Transportation in our Franklin Park, IL location.  In this role you will be responsible for managing the freight transportation services domestically and globally. This role supports and participates in RFP’s, manages carrier performance, and identifies continuous improvement and cost savings opportunities.  The Manager negotiates pricing and contracts, and coordinates with Sales, Customer Service, Plants and/or Logistics to support shipping needs and Customer Satisfaction.  This position manages a team that is responsible for processing BOL, monitor expedited orders, and supporting the distribution center with other duties as required. The Sr. Transportation is also responsible for shipping compliance including HTS, COO, and hazmat.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage all transportation functions within company guidelines and KPIs for all plants and DC’s
  • Negotiate and procure carrier/broker services across all modes to minimize cost while delivering maximum value to the organization (including pricing and contract negotiation)
  • Responsible for daily freight quotation including domestic and international and other ad-hoc to ensure carriers comply with Sloan’s policies and procedures
  • Analyze freight cost, service and identify opportunities and support continuous improvement to optimize savings and efficiencies
  • Collaborate and support other Business Units by identifying issues and developing solutions to ensure service expectations are met and act as the escalation point for carriers and internal team
  • Oversee international freight including routing, pricing, transit time and resolve service and operational issues with freight forwarders
  • Manage team who is responsible for daily shipping activities including BOL creation, spot quotes, and other transactional duties
  • Monitor carrier performance including issuing and following up on freight claims
  • Establish policies and procedures to drive the business forward
  • Ensure compliance for all domestic and international shipments including HTS, COO, and hazmat regulations

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 6+ Years Experience in the transportation industry handling domestic and international freight
  • Hazmat certification preferred
  • Advanced level experience working with Microsoft Excel.
  • Broker's license preferred
  • International freight experience
  • Proficiency working with SAP ERP preferred.
