We have an immediate need for a Principal Engineer at our new electronics facility in Andover, MA. This position is responsible for creating robust new designs for new products, improving older designs and developing new technologies. The position requires a self-starter who has a natural curiosity, a drive for self-improvement, and able to teach and lead other engineers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design new products in a team based, stage gate development process. Day to day direction will be provided by a Project Manager. It is likely that you will lead other engineers within a given project.
  • Assist with production and field failure problems. Conduct effective root cause analysis using a structured process to solve problems quickly and completely.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the science behind the design through appropriate engineering analysis, statistical methodologies, design of experiments technique, simulation, calculation and other engineering methodologies.
  • Investigate and develop new technologies to be applied to future products.
  • Create designs that are easy to manufacture and have minimal impact to the environment.
  • Prepare clear and concise documentation that includes CAD models, documentation of designs, inspection instructions and occasionally work instructions. Prepare knowledge briefs or white papers.
  • Lead and coach other engineers in formal and informal settings.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization both orally and in written fashion. Coordinate engineering activity with other Sloan partners and design sites. You may participate in setting design standards across the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 15 years of related work experience, or a Master’s degree in Engineering at least 10 years of related work experience, or a PhD degree in Engineering and at least 8 years of related work experience.
  • Five to seven years of experience in the design of electro-mechanical products and systems that meet relevant agency standards such as ASME and IAPMO standards. Design experience with machined, cast and injection molded components is necessary. A strong knowledge of a variety of materials is preferred, including brass, ceramic and plastics.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills. This includes at least 4 years of experience directing other engineers within a project environment.
  • Demonstrated capability with Pro Engineer, Geometric Design & Tolerance methodology, Finite Element analysis, mold flow analysis and proficiency in Design for Manufacturing concepts are required.
  • Have a working understanding of the concepts of verification and validation of designs. Demonstrated capability in the use of statistics to support engineering decisions is required.

 

Preferred Criterion:

  • Experience developing plumbing, valve or water handling products or other commercial building products.
  • Experience designing products that minimize environmental impact is highly desired.
  • Fluid dynamics simulation experience is preferred.
